🇵🇭 Siargao island - Two weeks as a remote worker in the Philippines’ next Bali
Siargao Circumferential Rd, Burgos, Surigao del Norte, Philippines
🗺️ All-in-one
🗺️ General
I had been aiming for this island for a long time. When I decided to travel to the Philippines, it was the only island I knew I would definitely go to. I started from Athens with a destination of Cebu, via Singapore, 12 hours later I was in the Philippines. 1 day stay in Cebu, and the next day after an hour of flight I was on the island I had been waiting for for so long
The island is the next Bali and a paradise for surfers and remote workers in the Philippines.
Your accommodation will be either in the village of General Luna, where most of the shops and nightlife are located, or in the north of the island in Pacifico. I recommend you visit both
Its nightlife, shops of all kinds and its vibe will steal your heart. My favorite? Riding around the palm-lined streets on a scooter. The absolute freedom you will be able to feel.
👨🏻💻Useful sites and apps
Grab - The Uber of Asia. I use it all the time to get around (not available in Siargao)
12GoAsia - For ferries, trains, etc. They also have very good support
Airalo - E-sim app. I always use it and activate it before arriving in a new country so I have internet from the first moment. Get a code if you want a 3$ discount: AVGOU5328 )
🛵 How to get around?
Once you arrive at the Siargao airport, mini-vans will be waiting to take you to General Luna or north to Pacifico. The cost is around 15 euros and the vans drop you off at your accommodation
Now, how to move around the island?
If there is one thing you need in Siargao, it is a motorbike. Most accommodation offers rental services, but there are also many shops for this purpose. Don't forget to negotiate the price! The more days you rent it, the better the price. (cost around 300-400pesos/day = 5-6eur. They don’t ask for a license 😂
But believe me, even if you have never ridden a motorcycle before, Siargao is the ideal place for this!
I loved every second of it.
🏡 Accommodation
In both General Luna and Pacifico, I stayed in 2 magical hostels, 2 of the best I’ve ever stayed in.
🍔 Food & coffee
Siargao is full of local and “western” restaurants and cafes especially in General Luna. You can find everything, from noodles to burgers and pizzas to tacos
🕺Nightlife
Siargao has one of the best nightlife’s I met on an island
There is typically a program of a party every night
Monday - Mama Coco
Tuesday - Sidargo
Wednesday - Goodies
Thursday- Bed and Brew
Friday - El Lobo
Saturday - Harana
Keep in mind that all bars closing at 12pm!!
After that however everyone goes to Beach club
🏄 Beaches and surfing
Ok. Siargao has average beaches for swimming but when it comes to surfing it is the Mecca in Philippines. Even if you never did surfing before, it is a great place to give it a try.
Main place is Cloud 9. You ll find a lot instructors there. But keep in mind that there are a lot of people there.
I’d recommend surfing in Pacifico!
🏋️♂️ Wellness
Ok if you spend a long time in Siargao, you should party every night but also lift some weights maaan
