I’ve been to Budapest three times, but I kind of skipped the classic tourist checklist — no thermal baths marathon or party hopping for me. Turns out, the city’s got way more up its sleeve! I wandered off the beaten path, hunted down tasty bites, and found the kind of spots that don’t make it into every guidebook. This is Budapest, my way — Ready to join me?
City tips ‼️
🇭🇺 Use Public Transport: Budapest’s trams, buses, and metro are efficient and cheap. Get a travel card for unlimited rides—it’ll save you time and money.
🇭🇺 Carry Cash (For Small Purchases): While cards are widely accepted, many smaller cafés, markets, and street vendors prefer cash—Hungarian Forints (HUF).
🇭🇺 ALWAYS buy and validate your ticket before traveling on Budapest’s public transport. Keep it with you—inspectors check often, and fines are high if you don’t have a valid ticket.
🇭🇺 If you really want to get a taxi to get around download and use the Bolt app.
🇭🇺 Book your attraction tickets in advance to save time & if you are a student bring your student card since many popular spots offer student discounts.
🇭🇺 Don’t be afraid to explore - they are so many hidden gems in every corner of the city.
Hotels 🏨
These are the two hotels I stayed at in Budapest—both clean, comfortable, and close to the city center. But don’t worry, there are plenty of other affordable hotels and Airbnb options all around the city, so you can easily find a place that fits your style and budget.
Sightseeing & activities 🏰
Here are some must-dos and must-sees I enjoyed in Budapest: exploring cool neighborhoods, checking out famous landmarks, snapping views from the city, and trying tasty local bites. Simple, fun, and all about discovering the city.

Shopping 🛍️
Feeling like shopping? Budapest has a bit of everything—from cute souvenir shops and big-name fashion stores to supermarkets that came in handy for snacks and essentials. These are just the spots I checked out during my trip, but the city is full of places waiting to be explored, whether you’re into browsing, bargain-hunting, or just window-shopping your way through!
