I visited Folegandros a few days ago and I was mesmerised by her beauty and uniqueness. I went there with no expectations and I found myself booking tickets to come back as soon as possible. If you’re looking for a traditional, beautiful, calm and cozy island, Folegandros is the place!
Beaches🌊
So you need to be strategic about your choices! Always look for the weather forecast! If the wind is north, you go west. If it is south, you go north etc. If you visit the west side, the smartest thing to do is go by car or bus to Agkali beach, dive in for a little pick-me-up dive and then go on foot to Galyfos beach. It’s a 10 minutes walk uphill, but trust me it’s doable! I personally believe Galyfos is the best beach in the whole island. So pure and beautiful! I loved it! After that you could take a 15 minute walk to Agios Nikolaos beach which is also an uphill walk but you can take the ferry to return to Agkali afterwards! Definitely worth it! Now, the beach at the port is perfectly nice! Really clean and peaceful! If you have the time you could also visit Katergo or Livadaki beach, which are only reachable by boat. Both amazing choices!
Food🥒
You haven’t really visited Folegandros if you don’t go to Irini’s tavern in Ano Meria. Do yourself a favour and book a table, but please do not pass on that delicious choice. The food is made by a wonderful Greek grandma and trust me it’s delicious! Definitely try the traditional matsata pasta, the eggplant salad and the homemade cheese pie. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Other than that the easy and just fine solution is the souvlaki club for something fast and easy. A great choice is also Kritikos at chora or synantisi at Ano Meria, if you want to eat something meaty. Otherwise, I didn’t really find a fish place that was worth it! Definitely try the ice cream from Prosargos and really anything from La petit! Also a great choice is to visit the one little store in Chora with traditional products near Zymaraki ( a place with fresh pasta in Chora- it was okey, around 7/10, on the pricier side) to get cookie boobooki which are small homemade cookies with amazing ingredients, great choice for a snack!
Night life 🫣
Okey so Folegandros is in the chillier side. Of course there are choices for everyone but if I want to be honest I had the best time in Kastro and in Astarti. Both really chill places, with the second one directly in the Center of Chora. In Astarti you choose your drink and sit in the outside of a church with everyone else to enjoy it and everyone becomes a big old friendgroup!
Definitely visit the Panagia to watch the sunset and if you have the chance drive to Chrisopigi to also watch maybe the most peaceful sunset you’ll ever see.
